About our Project

AIMS
This project is about empowering a community. The aims have been driven by the people of the Sella Chiefdom who want help not handouts. Through fundraising and contacts in business, education and healthcare we have set out to help the people of Sella by setting up the following:

Micro Credit – based on a system devised by Muhammad Yunus, money is loaned initially to the women of Sella to set-up small businesses or improve existing businesses. Money is paid back into the micro credit fund on a regular basis and made available to new loan applicants. These applications are judged on merit by a local panel of respected community leaders.

Community Animal Breeding – to improve the wider availability and ownership of livestock, we aim to set-up a community animal breeding programme. This will involve a system of loaning animals to neighbours who eventually repay the loan in baby animals rather than money. A similar system will be used for seed crops.

Adult Literacy – we aim to improve the skills of adults living in the community, initially by improving literacy rates but also through training provided by various organisations/charities on healthcare, agriculture, family planning and other work-related skills.
